Spa and Hot Tub Heaters – Tips You Should Know
Spa and hot tub heaters
are what make hot tubs so soothing and relaxing, which means that your
choice in a water heater for your own home spa is one of the most critical
decisions you can make. The water can be brought up to the proper
temperature using gas fired, wood burning or electric hot tub heaters. The
use of electricity is by far the most popular method and is generally the
most convenient choice.
One of the most important requirements for an
electric hot tub water heater is that it should bring the temperature up
to approximately 104 degrees. Most health professionals consider this to be
the maximum temperature, though there are some who advise that the
temperature of your hot tub or spa not exceed 100-102 degrees. Lower
temperatures than this are fine as long as they’re comfortable for you.
Most electric water heaters for portable
home spas have a built-in thermostat so that you can easily maintain the
proper temperature. If you don’t completely trust the thermostat you can buy
hot tub accessories such as a
floating thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature while soaking in the
tub. Make sure to immediately replace a faulty thermostat that sends the
wrong signal to the heating system. It will show in your energy bill.
You will also want to make sure that your hot tub is energy efficient. The
cost of bringing the water in a portable home spa up to temperature can be
costly, so be sure you get the best hottub
heater that meets energy efficiency standards. Home spas with insulated
shells and insulated covers will keep the heat from escaping and keep your
electricity bill down.
Finally, when it comes to installing an electric water heater, you always
want to be sure that it is installed and wired according to the local and
national electrical codes. Though you can install or repair your hot tub or
spa heating system yourself, it’s best to leave this to a qualified
contractor experienced in pool and spa installations.
