Portable Home Spas
What Are Portable Home Spas?
What are portable home
spas? Strictly speaking, any hot tub or home spa that is not built
directly into the ground is considered portable. In reality, though, there
are very few truly portable hottubs on the market. Most spas are quite
heavy, and once installed are not easy to move from place to place. Some
manufacturers, though, do produce lightweight tubs that are indeed portable
and also quite affordable.
Each type of portable spa has its own set of advantages and disadvantages,
so you should carefully consider your needs before deciding which tub to
bring home. For example, most lightweight models are compact and can be
placed in a variety of smaller spaces. They have smaller
hot tub heaters, hold less water, and
usually do not require special electrical wiring to operate safely. Most of
these hottubs are made of the same material throughout and are almost always
round. Because they are small they tend to heat up quickly, but they also
tend to lose heat quickly because they lack extra insulation.
The type of portable spa that most people picture in their mind is bigger,
holds more water, and requires special electrical wiring to accommodate its
power needs. This type of hot tub has seating that is molded into different
shapes and comes in many different colors, and is surrounded by a cabinet
made of wood, metal or synthetic materials. Durability and heat efficiency
are hallmarks of traditional home spas and hottubs because they are built to
stronger specifications and contain more insulation to retain heat.
If you are interested in a portable hot tub
but are not sure if you would use it enough to justify the expense, consider
a lightweight model for starters. They are relatively inexpensive and give
you enough of a spa experience to determine if you really like to use it a
lot. If you already know you would get a lot of use from a home spa, then
you are probably better off opting for a more expensive, heavier duty model.
