In Ground Hot Tubs
The Pros And Cons Of In Ground Hot Tubs
Many people think that in ground hot tubs are
unaffordable for all but the wealthiest homeowners, but this is no longer
true. While it is true that in ground pools, spas and hottubs cost more than
above ground pools or portable home spas, they are generally not
outrageously expensive. And although in-ground hottubs and spas do not
necessarily add a great deal to a home’s dollar value, they do add a great
deal to the homeowner’s quality of life. This alone makes hot tubs a
worthwhile investment for many people.
Benefits and Maintenance
The benefits of in-ground spas and hottubs are many. They are more durable
and reliable than a portable hot tub because they are not as exposed to the
outdoor elements, and many people feel they are more attractive because the
spa is built directly into the landscape. Additionally, in-ground hot tubs
can generally be built in a variety of shapes and sizes, much like swimming
pools. Maintenance is usually easier for a spa than it is for a regular pool
because the tub is smaller and requires less work to keep clean.

Down Sides
Of course, there are some down sides to in-ground hottubs, too. These types
of spas require much more space than their portable cousins, and they
require professional installation. Much like regular swimming pools,
built-in hot tubs are major construction projects that require proper
building permits, excavation, installation of electrical or natural gas
lines, and skilled labor. Many retailers do offer in-ground spa shells,
though, that are pre-fabricated to reduce the cost of installation. Shop
around and visit several dealers to evaluate their product lines, and ask
them for references to satisfied customers. Keep in mind that winter is
generally a slow time of year for sales of built-in spas and pools, so you
may be able to get a good deal if you are willing to buy then and wait until
spring for construction to begin.
