Hot Tub Filter
Choosing a Hot Tub Filter
The hot tub filter or spa filter is probably the most
important part of your system. It is always working to remove unwanted
materials from the water, such as bacteria, hair, leaves, bugs, and other
impurities. It should be properly maintained for the best performance.
The best spa filter systems work efficiently and require a low amount of
maintenance. The most commonly-used system for spas and hot tubs are
cartridge filters. These devices work by pushing the water through pleated
or folded mesh-like material.
There are a few things anyone can do that will help increase the life of the
filters. It is best to let the hot tub heater
and the spa’s pump run for at least an hour every day. This keeps it
circulating so that the water is constantly filtered, which reduces the
chances that the system will clog up.
Don’t use cleaners that are not made for your
portable home spa or hot tub. These
will add more oils that the filter must remove and decrease its life span.
It is best to rinse thoroughly before getting into the tub. Soaps left on
the body, shampoo residue in the hair, and other products like deodorant,
hair gel and hair spray are very hard on filter systems.
Use common sense when deciding how often the filter should be cleaned or the
cartridge changed. If the system is not working try cleaning it. Just like
cleaning the hot tub or spa, cleaners that are not specifically designed for
filters should not be used. If the unit does not seem to get any cleaner it
is best to change the cartridge. Regardless of its performance, you should
replace the cartridge at the recommended intervals specified in the user’s
guide.
