Choosing Hot Tub Deck Designs for Your Home Spa

Choosing between good hot tub deck designs and mediocre ones can be the difference between creating a wonderful vacation-like backyard getaway and an average-looking deck with a hot tub in the middle of it. A well taken care of wood surface looks great next to water. Here are a few things to keep in mind when designing a classic deck for your portable home spa.

A classic home spa design is a good way to add more recreation space to a yard, especially if the yard slopes. Make sure to take into account the overall tone and feel of your house and yard and make sure it fits with the design for the hot tub deck. If the home is Victorian, a contemporary looking deck is probably not the best idea.

Hot tubs and portable home spas have plumbing and electrical wiring that needs to be easily accessed, but no one wants to look at them. So look through books and find good ways to hide the plumbing and electrical wiring when designing your contemporary or classic deck.

The decking will be a place where people will be constantly walking bare foot. Nobody wants splinters in their feet. Plan on building with high quality lumber such as redwood or pressure-treated lumber. The wood will also need to be sealed as often as once every two years, so keep these two facts in mind when designing a contemporary or classic deck for your home spa or hot tub.

Another factor in classic designs for home spas is how it will be used. Will it be more important to be able to sit on the deck and be able to immerse your feet in the pool, or is it more important that it is easy to get in and out of the pool? If dangling your feet is a priority the top of the pool should be even with the wood. If entering and exiting the hot tub with ease is important, then it should be raised about a foot above the surface.

One final important factor when designing a classic deck for your spa is that it be relatively close to the main living area of the home. Most people like to be able to use their portable hot tubs in the winter and keeping it closer to the house will make it more desirable for use in the winter.
