Regular Testing for Hot Tub Bacterium Is Essential

Testing for hot tub bacterium is important to keeping your home spa in top operating condition. Regular tests for any contaminants or bacteria ensure not only that your spa will last for years, but that you can enjoy it safely.

Because spas and hot tubs are wet, warm environments they can be a breeding ground for a variety of bacteria, including ones that cause a variety of eye and skin infections. To prevent this, use the proper level of disinfectants to kill bacteria. Determining how much you need and how often requires using an accurate spa test kit designed for the size and water capacity of your hot tub.

The Water Quality Test Kit

Check with the dealer or manufacturer where you got your hot tub supplies and find out what type of test kit they recommend. Most will test for three things: pH level (to reduce the chance of skin irritation and drying), free chlorine (that which hasn’t been used up killing bacteria yet) and combined chlorine (that has already reacted with particles in the water). There will be instructions telling you what the levels should be for each one and how much chlorine, bromine and alkali needs to be added.

By testing your water daily and maintaining the proper levels of chemicals to prevent hot tub bacterium growth, you will have clear, healthy water at all times. This will prevent problems and enhance your enjoyment of your hot tub or spa at all times.
