The Home Luxury Spa – Is It for You?

You’ve wanted a home luxury spa since the first time you ever sat in a Jacuzzi®. Everything about the luxury spa experience thrills you, and you know you want your own hot tub—now.

Before you start shopping for your own luxury hot tub, however, there are some things you really want to consider first. Because there’s more to the home spa experience than relaxing in one for a luxurious soak.

First of all, there’s the expense involved in owning in-ground or portable hot tubs. While it’s possible to get one at a huge discount, perhaps from a wholesaler or by purchasing a used one, a home spa is still a, well, luxury item. You will also have to budget for chemicals and cleaning materials to ensure your tub stays in top working condition.

In addition, there is the time involved with maintaining your hot tub. Many people who buy portable home spas are enthusiastic at first, but after the newness wears off, they find the cleaning and continual water testing is more of a pain than anything else. While hot tub maintenance isn’t as time consuming as with a luxury swimming pool, it still takes time to perform. So when thinking about the monetary investment, be sure you consider the time investment involved that comes with the luxury of owning a home spa.

Finally, you want to be sure your outdoor home spa is installed in a location that ensures privacy. Hot tub gazebos and spa enclosures make great covers to protect your spa from the elements and allow you to bathe luxuriously without the nosy neighbors watching. You may need to purchase liability insurance if your luxury spa is set up outside. Check with your home insurance company before you have it delivered and installed. As an extra safety precaution, consider replacing the standard hot tub cover with a lockable custom spa cover (mandatory in some States) to prevent unauthorized access and to keep children and pets away from home spas and tubs.
