Are Cheap Hot Tubs Really Less Expensive?
It is not hard to find cheap hot tubs, but are they
really less expensive? In most cases the answer is no, because the long term
cost of a cheap home spa or hot tub can be much more than you might expect.
Discount tubs are often priced lower because they are not constructed well,
or their critical components are not reliable. Most experts agree that it’s
okay to look for a bargain on your hot tub
spa supplies and chemicals, but it is risky to buy a bargain basement
home spa.
Online and discount stores may be great sources of
discount hot tub
supplies, but they are not always the best choice for purchasing the hot tub
itself. Tubs that are offered for extremely cheap prices are tempting
because for most people a hot tub is a significant investment and any up
front cost savings seem like a good idea. The difficulty comes later in the
spa’s lifespan, when it often becomes apparent why it was sold at such a
great discount in the first place. For example, the hottub heater is a common failure spot
because it starts to corrode and can’t supply heat anymore, and the pump may
begin to weaken until it no longer supplies enough pressure to operate the
jets. In most cases these problems occur because the manufacturer uses
cheaper components in order to sell their products at huge discounts.
Sometimes, though, a cheap portable hot tub
is a good deal because the reason for the discount is not related to the
quality of its components. For example, tubs that are discontinued models
often go on sale at large discounts so the manufacturer or retailer can
clear out inventory and make room for new models. Sometimes a manufacturer
supplies retailers with spas that have cosmetic blemishes or other slight
flaws that do not affect the performance but prevent them from being sold at
full price. In either of these situations, the hot tubs are often good deals
because they are made of high quality components but can be purchased for a
cheaper, discounted price.
